Honley Show - News
Your Opinions are important to us
Every year we get bigger and try our best to put on a better
show to keep the thousands of people through the gates
entertained. Did you know that Honley Show Limited Society
puts a considerable amount of monies back in to local causes
and charities each year? More information about this aspect
of our work will appear here later. Each year, we also have
a nominated charity at the Show. The National Childbirth
Trust are our charity for 2010. Please come along and help
support them in their work. We also offer registered
charities a rebate on their trade stand space at the show,
helping them to promote their charity work and raise much
needed funds.
Any comments, ideas, suggestions appreciated. Please
get in touch with us.
Thank you.

Join the organising team
The Show is run entirely by volunteers and we are always on
the look out for additional people to help, year on year. As
soon as one Show has been held, we start organising the next
one. Committee meetings are held on the first Tuesday of
each month, at Honley Liberal Club, starting at 7.30pm (for
approximately 2 hours).
All of the specific sections have a Secretary and, in most
cases, assistants and other regular helpers. Between
meetings, a multitude of tasks have to be completed and
procedures put in place – e.g. general administration,
correspondence, activities, entertainments and equipment to
book. We are proud of the fact that many Section Secretaries
and their own teams have been helping to organise the Show
for many years, but we do have a number of specific
vacancies to fill and additional help would be welcomed in a
number of other ways:-
-
If you can’t attend
regular Committee meetings, perhaps you could help
during evenings in the week preceding the Show. This
would involve helping prepare the show ground, marking
out and moving equipment
-
On Show day, help is
needed directing traffic and visitors, litter
management, assisting exhibitors and dealing with
general enquiries, to name but a few of the numerous
tasks to be undertaken to ensure things run smoothly
-
For up to two days
after the Show, help is required to tidy everything away
and to completely clear the site, ready for the farmer
to use the site for its normal purpose.
If you feel you could spare a few hours at any of these times,
or wish to become more actively involved with the 2010 show
in any way, please contact the General Secretary on (01484)
487527. The Society will be delighted to hear from you, to
hear how you might be able to contribute to making Honley
Show a day to remember. Thank you!
